The best Retell AI alternatives
priced by the minute, or not.

The best Retell AI alternatives for 2026, ranked for the businesses, agencies and contact centres that use it. Some are voice platforms that price the minute in a different way, one is a finished receptionist on a monthly plan, and one is an agent that charges a flat fee and leaves the minutes on your own accounts. Each entry says who it suits and how it charges.

Why people look for Retell AI alternatives

Retell AI is a voice agent platform for automating phone calls, and its site pitches it at the modern contact centre. Conversations are designed in a no-code studio on a drag-and-drop canvas, with functions, integrations, call transfers, DTMF and SMS as steps, and developers get APIs and SDKs for programmatic control. Agents take inbound calls, run outbound campaigns through batch calling, and work on the web and over chat and SMS, with post-call analysis and quality assurance across the calls. Its docs describe connecting your own telephony through elastic SIP trunking, with guides for Twilio, Telnyx and Vonage.

That breadth is why many businesses and agencies start on Retell, and it is also why some of them leave. A plumber who wanted the phone answered, or an agency building an agent for each of twenty local clients, finds a canvas to design, nodes to wire, a telephony choice to make, concurrency to size and a quality-assurance layer they may never open. The work is real even without code, and it continues after launch: every change of price, hours or offer is a change to the flow.

The other reason is the price. Retell charges per minute, and its pricing page shows the rate assembled from parts: its voice infrastructure, the language model, the text-to-speech provider and telephony. At the time of writing, its published rate for voice agents starts at $0.07 a minute and runs up to $0.31 depending on those choices, chat is charged per message, and optional add-ons such as advanced denoising, PII removal and AI quality assurance each add a little per minute. Phone numbers, concurrency beyond the twenty free calls and knowledge bases beyond the ten included are charged monthly on top. New accounts start with $10 in free credits.

This roundup ranks six Retell AI alternatives for 2026. Two are build platforms like Retell with a different pricing shape, one is a finished receptionist for small businesses, two are enterprise options priced by a bundled rate or a contract, and one is a finished agent on a flat plan. Each entry says how the tool charges, which channels its own site lists, and when it is the better choice, including when that choice is to stay on a platform built for contact centres.

Four reasons people leave Retell AI

Each follows from Retell's published scope and pricing. For a contact centre most of them are features. For a smaller business or an agency they are costs, in money or in time.

01

Every minute is a sum of choices

A Retell voice minute is its voice infrastructure plus the model you choose, plus the text-to-speech provider, plus telephony, and optional add-ons for a knowledge base, advanced denoising, safety guardrails, PII removal and AI quality assurance each add to the rate. The pricing page is open about every part. It still means choosing a model and a voice partly on price, and knowing that the rate you budgeted for changes the moment you change either of them.

02

The monthly items stack up quietly

Alongside the per-minute rate, Retell charges by the month for each phone number, for each verified number, for every concurrent call above the twenty included, and for each knowledge base beyond the ten included. An agency running one agent per client multiplies each of those lines by the number of clients, and a single business that grows into more lines or more knowledge bases sees the fixed part of its bill grow with it, before a single call is taken.

03

It is built for a contact centre

Its homepage talks about an AI-native contact centre, and the features follow: batch calling for high-volume campaigns, branded caller ID and verified numbers, SIP trunks into Genesys Cloud, Five9 and Amazon Connect, and quality assurance across the calls. A large operation uses all of it. A clinic, a trades business or a small agency pays for that depth in setup time, in decisions about telephony and concurrency, and in a studio full of options it will never touch.

04

The phone gets an agent, and the rest waits

Retell's homepage names phone calls, web, chat and SMS as the places its agents work. A customer who writes to info@, sends an Instagram DM at 10pm, or needs an email on day 2 and a text on day 4 after missing a call, is looked after by whatever else you run for those channels, with its own knowledge base and its own copy of that customer, or by nobody. Building a follow-up sequence across email, text and calls around a voice platform is a second project.

What to look for in a Retell AI alternative

Most people leaving Retell are after one of three things: a bill they can predict, less to build, or more channels from one agent. Weigh each alternative on all three.

01 / Cost

A bill you can forecast

Separate the per-minute rate from the monthly items: numbers, concurrency, knowledge bases, platform fees. Then price your busiest month, not your average one. A bundled rate, a plan with minutes included and a flat software fee with usage on your own accounts each move differently when the phone gets busy, and an agency should multiply every fixed item by its number of clients.

02 / Effort

What you have to build

A canvas, a prompt with tools, a code framework or a knowledge base in a dashboard: each asks different things of whoever sets it up. Ask what a change of prices or opening hours involves on each, who can make it, and whether it takes effect without redeploying anything. A low rate per minute is not cheap if every change needs a builder.

03 / Reach

Channels, numbers and the handover

Check which channels each tool lists on its own site, whether your number stays in your own Twilio or carrier account, whether it books into the calendar you already use and reads the CRM that holds your customers, and what happens when the agent cannot help: a live transfer to a person, or the caller's details taken and passed to your inbox with the transcript.

The best Retell AI alternatives, ranked

Bold Agent Kit is first. After it, the list is ordered by fit for the typical Retell AI buyer, a business or agency building phone agents on a self-serve platform: the two build platforms closest to Retell, then a finished receptionist for small businesses, then the two options sold to enterprises on a bundled rate or a contract.

We make Bold Agent Kit, which is why it is first on this list. Every other entry is described from its own website, including when it is the better choice.

01 / Best for businesses and agencies that want a flat price, not a rate per minute

Bold Agent Kit

Bold Agent Kit is for the Retell customer whose reason for being there was a business phone: a line to answer, appointments to book, leads to follow up. It is the agent already built. You set it up in a dashboard the way you would brief a new receptionist: your hours, prices and lead times as data points, the answers you give every week as Q&A pairs, your services and policies as documents, and instructions for how it greets people, what it may offer and when it should fetch you. There is no flow to design, and a new price is used from the next conversation.

Calls run on your own Twilio number, with separate switches for answering and dialling. The agent hears and speaks in real time on your AI provider's fastest model, transcribes with Google or Deepgram, and speaks in a voice from Google, Amazon Polly or ElevenLabs, or one from your own ElevenLabs or Fish Audio key, including a voice you cloned. It offers real open slots from one of eight calendars and books the one the caller picks, and reads HubSpot, GoHighLevel, Jobber, Housecall Pro, ServiceTitan or your store before it answers. The same agent answers texts, email, website chat and eleven DM platforms, and runs campaigns of email, text and call steps that stop on a reply, a booking or an opt-out.

The price is the other half. There is no rate per minute, no charge per concurrent call and no fee per knowledge base from us: $25 a month or $200 a year for the account, with unlimited agents and a client login onto each, which suits an agency running one agent per client. Twilio bills you for the number and the minutes and your AI provider for the model, at cost. Choose a platform instead if you run a contact centre, need live call transfers, which Bold Agent Kit cannot do, or want to build your own software on top of a voice platform.

02 / Best for developers who want an API-first platform on their own keys

Vapi

Vapi is, in its own docs' words, the developer platform for building voice AI agents. Its platform page says every capability is reachable through a REST API, with client and server SDKs; assistants combine speech-to-text, a language model and a voice from dozens of providers; squads chain several assistants together with handoffs; and the same page lists custom SIP, warm transfers, voicemail detection, DTMF, test suites and more than 200 built-in integrations. You can bring your own API keys for transcription, the model and the voice, or plug in self-hosted models.

Pricing on its Build plan is usage-based: hosting per minute of calls and per chat or SMS message, ten concurrent calls included with extra lines charged monthly, and model provider costs at cost, or nothing on your own key. Call history is kept for 14 days on Build. Its Scale plan is an annual contract with a fixed platform fee, committed volume and volume-based per-minute pricing. Numbers can be imported from Twilio, and Vapi's free US numbers, up to five per account, do not support outbound calls.

When to choose it over Retell: if your team works in code rather than on a canvas, wants to choose every provider on its own keys, and would rather compose squads of assistants than one flow. If what you want to leave behind is the per-minute bill, Vapi bills hosting by the minute as well, so it moves the meter rather than removing it.

Best fordevelopers who want an API-first platform on their own keys

03 / Best for teams that want minutes included in a monthly plan

ElevenLabs Agents

ElevenLabs Agents is the agent platform from ElevenLabs. Its site describes configuring, deploying and monitoring agents in more than 70 languages across voice, chat and email, with telephony, a web widget added with a single line of HTML, WhatsApp and SMS among its channels. The builder is a no-code configuration screen with system prompts, knowledge bases and workflows, testing before deployment and analytics afterwards, and developers get SDKs for web and mobile, WebSocket and REST APIs, MCP and webhooks.

For a Retell customer, the pricing is the headline difference. Rather than a rate assembled from components on every minute, ElevenLabs sells monthly plans that each include agent minutes and a concurrency limit, from a free plan with 15 minutes through Starter, Creator, Pro, Scale and Business, with Enterprise on custom terms. Minutes beyond the plan are charged per minute, text messages per message, and the language model and any telephony are billed on top based on usage. Its site says you can bring your own model, and it names native integrations with Twilio, Genesys, Zendesk and Salesforce.

When to choose it: if you want a platform like Retell with minutes bundled into a plan so the month starts from a known figure, if the voice itself matters, with a large library and custom voice cloning, or if your callers speak many languages. It is still a platform, so the agent is yours to configure, to connect to your calendar and CRM, and to keep current.

04 / Best for small businesses that want a receptionist, not a build

Frontdesk

Frontdesk, the AI front office at myaifrontdesk.com, is a finished product rather than a platform. Its site describes an AI-powered front office that handles customers across voice, text and chat, from the first enquiry to the follow-up: an AI phone receptionist, a web chatbot, SMS and WhatsApp messaging, email agents, a built-in CRM with one memory per customer, calendar booking, and outbound calls and SMS campaigns. When a case is beyond it, its site says it escalates to a human supervisor in real time with the full transcript.

It is aimed at small and medium-sized businesses, with pages for property management, retail, therapy practices and real estate, and integrations named for those trades, including Yardi, AppFolio, Buildium, SimplePractice, Jane App, Shopify and WooCommerce, alongside Zapier and an API. Its Business-in-a-Box plan includes a monthly allowance of voice minutes, chatbot conversations, texts and outbound calls, with usage beyond that bought as credits; partner and enterprise pricing is custom, and there is a white-label resell option for agencies.

When to choose it: if you are a small business that went to Retell to get the phone answered and would rather switch on a receptionist than design a call flow, and a monthly allowance of minutes suits your volume. It also fits if a live escalation to a person, or one of the property or practice systems it names, is central to how you work. Agencies building on Retell for local clients may want to look at its white-label option.

05 / Best for enterprises that want one all-in rate instead of components

Bland AI

Bland AI takes the opposite approach to pricing from Retell. Where Retell breaks each minute into infrastructure, model, voice and telephony, Bland's pricing page says its per-minute rate covers the language model, speech-to-text and text-to-speech in one number, with no token charges and no model-provider pass-throughs, and its homepage adds telephony to that list. Plans differ in the rate, concurrency, calls per day, voices and knowledge bases, and Enterprise is contracted to your volume.

It is built for enterprises in regulated industries, and its homepage names healthcare, insurance, financial services and logistics. Deployment can be in Bland Cloud, inside your own VPC on AWS, GCP or Azure, or on your own hardware on Enterprise, with regional deployment in the US, EU and APAC. Agents are built by describing them to Norm, its builder, or through a REST API and CLI, tested against scenario suites, and deployed across voice, SMS, iMessage and web chat with one memory. Its docs describe connecting your own Twilio account to bring existing numbers over.

When to choose it: if the reason you are leaving Retell is the arithmetic of components and you would rather have one rate that includes the model, or if the agent has to run inside your own network. Plans cap concurrent calls and calls per day, so size the tier to your volume. If you want to pick the model and pay its provider yourself, the bundled rate works the other way.

06 / Best for contact centres that want implementation in the contract

Synthflow

Synthflow is the choice on this list for a contact centre that likes what Retell does but would rather not run the build itself. Its site describes an enterprise voice AI platform for automated phone calls with its own in-house telephony, a visual flow designer with API-connected steps, a testing sandbox, real-time monitoring and forward-deployed engineers who work on the deployment with you. It lists more than 200 integrations, including Salesforce, HubSpot and Zapier, and channels across voice, chat, SMS and WhatsApp, for sectors such as BPO, healthcare, financial services, retail and telecommunications.

Its pricing page lists a single tier: an enterprise contract, scoped around call volume, concurrency, telephony setup, integrations, security needs and launch support. The contract covers Synthflow native telephony, SIP trunking or approved enterprise telephony; integrations with CRMs, calendars, contact-centre stacks, webhooks and APIs; and implementation, onboarding, testing, training, launch support and ongoing optimisation.

When to choose it: if you are moving a contact-centre workload off Retell and want the vendor involved from scoping to launch, under an annual contract rather than a per-minute self-serve account. Its published pricing is enterprise contracts only, so it is not the route for a single business line or for an agency with small local clients.

Retell builds its rate from components. Vapi bills hosting per minute and passes model costs through; Bland AI bundles the model and telephony into one rate; ElevenLabs Agents and Frontdesk include minutes in a monthly plan and charge for more; Synthflow is priced by contract. Bold Agent Kit charges for the software and leaves the minutes and the model on your own Twilio and AI accounts. If you are an agency, multiply any per-number or per-agent charge by your number of clients.

We checked each tool’s public website on 11 September 2026 for this page. Plans and features change, so check each vendor’s own site for the current detail. Product names are trademarks of their owners, and Bold Agent Kit is not affiliated with or endorsed by any of them.

Which Retell AI alternative to choose

If you want to stay on a build platform, Vapi suits a team that works in code and wants every provider on its own keys, and ElevenLabs Agents suits one that wants minutes included in a plan, many languages or a particular voice. If you run a contact centre and want the vendor to carry more of the work, Synthflow sells an annual contract with implementation included, and Bland AI sells one rate per minute, with deployment inside your own VPC if you need it.

If you are a small business that went to Retell to get the phone answered, Frontdesk is a finished receptionist on a monthly plan with minutes included, and Bold Agent Kit is a finished agent on a flat plan with the minutes on your own Twilio account. Bold Agent Kit also answers texts, email, website chat and eleven DM platforms from the same knowledge base, and runs the follow-up campaigns.

If you are an agency building one agent per client, Bold Agent Kit is the one we would start with: unlimited agents on one $25 plan, a client login onto each agent, and no per-number, per-concurrency or per-knowledge-base fee from us. The full side-by-side is on our Bold Agent Kit vs Retell AI page.

What is the best Retell AI alternative?

It depends on who you are. A development team that wants to work in code with every provider on its own keys should look at Vapi; one that wants minutes included in a monthly plan, or many languages, at ElevenLabs Agents. A contact centre that wants the vendor to carry the implementation should look at Synthflow, or at Bland AI for one all-in rate per minute. A small business that wants a finished receptionist could look at Frontdesk. A business or agency that wants every channel answered by one agent at a flat price should choose Bold Agent Kit.

Why do people switch from Retell AI?

Usually for cost, effort or reach. The per-minute rate is built from infrastructure, model, voice and telephony, with add-ons on top, and numbers, extra concurrency and extra knowledge bases are charged monthly, so the bill is hard to predict and, for an agency, multiplies by client. The no-code studio is still a build: nodes, functions and integrations to design and maintain. And its homepage names calls, web, chat and SMS, so email and social DMs sit with other tools. For a contact centre these are fair trade-offs; for a small business they are often the reason to look around.

How is Bold Agent Kit different from Retell AI?

Retell AI is a platform for building voice and chat agents at contact-centre scale, priced per minute from its components. Bold Agent Kit is one finished agent for a business: a knowledge base and instructions that answer calls on your own Twilio number, texts on nine carriers, email from your own mailboxes, website chat and eleven DM platforms, with booking into eight calendars and campaigns across email, text and call steps. It is $25 a month or $200 a year for the account, with nothing per minute from us. The full side-by-side is on our Bold Agent Kit vs Retell AI comparison page.

Can I move my agents from Retell AI?

Not by export, but a Retell agent translates cleanly. The facts in its prompt or nodes, such as prices, hours and lead times, become data points; the answers each node gives become Q&A pairs; longer material becomes documents; and the branching rules become instructions, for example when to take details and fetch you. Save an outbound script as a call template. Then connect your Twilio account, calendar and CRM, and import contacts as a CSV or a CRM segment. If your number already sits in your own Twilio account, connect that account here; if Retell supplied the number, ask Retell what moving it involves.

Is there a free Retell AI alternative?

A few let you start without paying. ElevenLabs Agents has a free plan that includes 15 minutes, with paid plans above it. Bland AI's Start plan has no platform fee and needs no card, although calls on it are charged per minute. Frontdesk offers a 7-day free trial with no card required, and Bold Agent Kit a 7-day free trial too. None of these is free at volume: once you pass what is included, calls cost money on every one of them, whether billed by the platform or, with Bold Agent Kit, by your own carrier and AI provider.

Is there a Retell AI alternative with a flat monthly price?

Bold Agent Kit is the flattest option here: $25 a month or $200 a year for the whole account, with unlimited agents and no per-minute, per-message, per-number or per-concurrency charge from us. Twilio bills you for the number and the minutes at its own rates, and your AI provider for the model at theirs. ElevenLabs Agents and Frontdesk sell monthly plans with minutes included, which gives the month a known starting figure, though usage beyond the allowance is charged. Synthflow is an annual contract. Vapi and Bland AI charge per minute.

Which Retell AI alternative suits an agency?

That depends on the clients. For local businesses that want their phone, texts, email, chat and DMs answered, Bold Agent Kit runs unlimited agents on one $25 plan, one per client, each with its own number, voice and knowledge base, and a client login that shows them their own agent and nothing else. Frontdesk offers a white-label resell option for agencies that want to sell a finished receptionist. For agencies building custom voice applications for larger clients, Vapi and ElevenLabs Agents are platforms with APIs to build on, priced by usage or by plan.

Can a Retell AI alternative book appointments during the call?

Several can. Bold Agent Kit offers real open slots from Google Calendar, Microsoft 365, Calendly, Cal.com, Acuity, Zoho Bookings, Square Appointments or HubSpot Meetings and books the one the caller picks; it can only book a slot it actually offered, so it cannot double-book you. Frontdesk lists calendar booking among its features. Bland AI names Calendly and Cal.com among its connectors, and Vapi lists Google Calendar among its integrations, alongside tools that call your own systems. Retell itself links a Cal.com account for booking on the call.
